Your City of Canton Emergency Management team, Mayor and Council are monitoring the progression of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potential impact on the community and city services.

To increase awareness and educate the public, the city has provided the following information.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The novel coronavirus, named SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19), is a respiratory virus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in December 2019 and now has been detected globally, including in the United States.

To limit spreading the virus, CDC recommends routine practices including:

  • Regular hand washing with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
  • Clean and disinfect homes and work areas regularly
  • Avoid touching your face 

Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2-14 days after exposure, based on the previous testing of similar MERs-CoV viruses, and include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
