Water Notices

Posted June 12, 2024

The City of Canton Water Department, PWS ID 2340001, will temporarily return to the method of using free chlorine as part of an annual preventive maintenance program beginning Thursday, June 13, 2024 and will end on or around July 12, 2024.  The procedure will only affect the City of Canton utility service area.  This is a routine procedure providing additional protection against bacteria and is common practice for systems using combined chlorine.

These temporary conditions will not cause adverse health effects, but some individuals may experience a slight change in taste or odor in the tap water during this period, including when washing dishes in the sink or taking a bath.  All water customers who pay their bills directly to the City of Canton Utilities Department will be affected.

This task is part of our ongoing efforts to provide a safe, potable water supply for our drinking water customers.

Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine; persons maintaining aquariums with any sensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regarding dechlorination.

Information about drinking water and health is available on the Environmental Protection Agency's Website, and through the Safe Drinking Water Hotline: 1-800-426-4791.
